Lira Organizzata
Of these the unique projects of Anatoly, his current passion circles around reconstructing a unique 18th- century instrument called “lira organizzata”. This is an unusual combination of a classic hurdy-gurdy with a built-in compact pipe organ.
It took about two years to reconstruct this historical instrument with a guitar-shaped body based on an engraving in a treatise of French monk Dom Bedos published in 1766-78. This instrument was then developed to fit the contemporary requirements of performers. As a result, this new and improved Hurdy-Gurdy-Organ appears in music practice - again!
The “new old” hurdy-gurdy has two different voices: a string(s), and pipe (flute) sounds. Multiple combinations of strings and pipes allow the timbre abilities of the instrument to increase dramatically.
The main features of the ZAYA-RUZO HURDY-GURDY-ORGAN are (refer to the pictures):
- 6 strings (two Chanterelles, Trumpet, Mouche, Petit and Gros Bourdons).
- Mechanical tuning pins and fine-tuning mechanism for the Chanterelles.
- Two bellows + receiver pumping action.
- The ability to disengage the bellows and the crank.
- An adjustable two-step distance from the organ valves to the tangents (allows play in different combinations of strings and pipes).
- Two full octaves range for both strings and pipes.
- Warm and impressive voice of pipes.
- Removable bottom of the body for easy servicing.
- Adjustable hand crank (65 to 90 mm length with 5 mm steps).
Full "electrification" with magnet pick-ups (even for silk, gut and synthetic strings) is available.
